Effective governance is at the heart of successful integrated landscape management. PROGREEN’s new Landscape Governance Assessment e-course equips practitioners with the concepts, tools, and practical steps needed to identify governance gaps and strengthen institutions at the landscape level.
What This Course Is
- A self-paced e-learning module that explains the fundamentals of landscape governance, provides a structured walkthrough of 10 key governance challenges; and includes practical guidance on how to assess and improve governance.
Who It’s For
- National and subnational government officials working on forestry, agriculture, environment, land use, or rural development.
- World Bank task teams designing or implementing integrated landscape management projects.
- Development practitioners, and other stakeholders engaged in natural resource governance or place-based programs.
Why It Matters
- Governance is essential but often overlooked, it shapes how natural resources are used, and how trade-offs and synergies are negotiated in a landscape.
- The primary symptoms of weak governance can include illegal logging, unregulated land-use change, overexploitation of resources, and inequitable benefit-sharing, among others.
- By identifying governance gaps early, practitioners can design interventions that are more effective, equitable, and sustainable.
- This course helps learners identify gaps, anticipate challenges, and propose concrete, context-specific solutions.
